Yeah well you will be the one crying when we need those nukes to recreate the film Armageddon.
I find your quantification of the lives lost in Paris to be quite ridiculous. The point isn't that these number of people die in accidents, its that people went out of their way to kill them! Its not the same principle...the terrorist attack was not caused by a slippery road or a train derailment, nor by a curable disease.
"terrorists cant harm us" Well lets see you say that if they ever kill some one close to you, or you end up in the middle of an attack your self.
Peoples lives are directly effected by terrorism, especially when life is lost.
Yes they are, but there is different ways to go about the aftermath.
There is the way that was chosen by the wise countrymen of our glorious leader, and then there is the French way. One of them, is quite smart and helps the people that are grieving, making it clear that was has happend was terrible but also something that we as a society can not prevent.
That there are bad people out there, that will do horrible things for stupid reasons. And that their indiscriminate killing is something we as a society condemn.
And then there is the way the French chose, where you let yourself be dragged down onto the level of the attacker. Bomb villages where you primarily hit civilians anyway, and justify the violence of your attackers, by showing what horrible things you are doing to them.
You are making the statement as a society, that you are not only are not only not giving a shit about the victims, you are also justify the attacks by giving your opponents another reason to do the same to you.
Live isnt a video game. Violence is not a solution to ANYTHING.
Best case you are showing that you are no better than the person you are fighting against.
Worst case you are creating new enemies that now have a better reason to hate you.
As for using nukes against asteroid, well that is just bullshit you would instead use a reflective foil and cover the asteroid with it. The suns light would change its path far enough that it would not hit the earth.
