ASUS Z390 and Z370 motherboards are fire hazards (the ASUS Strix boards are literally under investigation in the EU for a ban) and so yeah I would stay away. I would go Ryzen - heck probably even 1st gen R7 1700, simply because you can get CPU and motherboard for so cheap, and they give you the 8 cores you'll need to avoid schedule stuttering in upcoming and some current titles.

Furthermore, the specs of the next Playstation is confirmed to be 8 core AMD processor, so future games will be developed to take advantage.

The latest i5 and i7 from Intel do outperform Ryzen slightly, but that is because they have frankly an irresponsible power curve, the 8600K can pull 275W on its own when overclocked even conservatively, which is insane. And very very few motherboards are built to handle it (EVGA are the only ones I'd recommend, power-delivery wise)

I've got about 600 to maybe 700 to spend and all I need is MOBO/CPU/RAM
Any suggestions for the best bang for buck?

The 1700 is cheap on Newegg too, just get all 3 parts from them to get it all from the same place.

The motherboard is a timed deal though, don't know when it expires

But yeah that's about half of what you wanted to spend :p

Since the board is B450, you can go up to the latest generation of Ryzen if you want, for an extra 5%-10% (R7 2700) and some ironed out bugs (kinda worth it if you want less fiddling)

It's a good board but it's verrrry similar to the much cheaper https://pcpartpicker.com/product/nQc48d/asrock-x470-master-sliac-atx-am4-motherboard-x470-master-sliac

Save that money and put it towards a good NVMe SSD like https://pcpartpicker.com/product/6YtQzy/intel-660p-series-512gb-m2-2280-solid-state-drive-ssdpeknw512g8xt (a lot faster than a SATA SSD)

My $0.02 :p
